Walks of Prague

1. Grand Tour

Old Town Hall

Do you have limited time for a visit to Prague? In that case, the Grand Tour is ideal for you, as it covers all the essential sights, legends, and history of Prague. We will explore four historical districts, starting in Hradčany (the Castle District) and the Prague Castle. From there, we will follow the Royal Route through the Little Quarter (Malá Strana), cross the Charles Bridge, and continue to the Old Town. We will finish our tour at Wenceslas Square, a major boulevard and the heart of the New Town.
Duration approx. 3-4 hrs
NB: If we start the tour from your hotel, the route will be altered accordingly.

2. Two Days in Prague

Old Town Bridge Tower
The most popular and frequently chosen programme for both groups and individuals. The first day will be dedicated to the left bank of the Vltava River, focusing on the most important monuments in the Castle District and the Little Quarter (also known as the Lesser Town). Highlights include the Strahov Monastery, the pilgrimage site of Loreto, the Prague Castle (the seat of Czech Presidents), the Cathedral of St. Vitus, and the area below the Castle, including the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas. On the following day, we will cross the Charles Bridge and spend the rest of the time on the right bank of the Vltava River, exploring the Old Town, New Town, and, if you're interested, the Jewish Quarter. Notable highlights include the Old Town Hall featuring the Astronomical Clock, Carolinum (Charles University), the Estates Theatre, and Wenceslas Square.
Each tour takes 3-4 hrs

3. Prague Castle

Cathedral of St. Vitus The Prague Castle is the most important monument in the Czech Republic, as it has served as the seat of Czech princes, later kings, and today, presidents. Its vast grounds can be described as a city within a city. One of the highlights of the Castle is St. Vitus Cathedral, a breathtaking treasury of art. The stained glass windows inside are particularly unforgettable, including the one designed by the famous Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha. Do you know what happens when the clapper of the largest bell in Bohemia breaks? Or where the main patron saint of the Czech nation, St. Wenceslas, rests? A relaxing part of the tour includes a walk through the Castle gardens or a short break at one of the many cafes.
Duration approx. 3 hrs
N.B. On Sunday mornings, the cathedral is closed to visitors during Mass.
Entrance fees: Interiors of the Castle (Cathedral of St. Vitus, Old Royal Palace, Basilica of St. George, Golden Lane).

4. Old Town

Astronomical Clock

This tour explores the event-filled history of the Old Town and its most significant sights. We will walk through the symbolic heart of the capital – the Old Town Square. I will explain the intricate mechanism of the Astronomical Clock and share the legend of the poor clockmaker. Afterward, we will pass through the former Jesuit complex, Clementinum, on our way to the Charles Bridge. We will then escape the crowds of tourists by taking a passage to a quieter area where you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the city. We will also touch on the Bethlehem Chapel, the center of the Czech Reformation, and reach the boundary of the New Town – National Avenue, where the Velvet Revolution began, leading to the lower part of Wenceslas Square, the true center of Prague. Other attractions include the Estates Theatre, associated with Mozart, the oldest university in Central Europe, the richly decorated Powder Tower, and a masterpiece of Art Nouveau – the Municipal House.
Duration approx. 3 hrs
NB: If we start the tour from your hotel, the route will be altered accordingly.

5. Jewish Town

Spanish Synagogue Despite the fact that the old ghetto no longer exists, six original synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery still retain the mysterious atmosphere of the Jewish Quarter. Not only did the well-known Maharal – Rabbi Löw – live in this district, but also his clay servant – the Golem. Let us uncover the mystery of the angels who allegedly brought stones from the Jerusalem Temple to Prague, or the tragic fate of dead children dancing in the cemetery. The history of the Prague Jews dates back to the 10th century, and over the next 1,000 years, many (mostly tragic) stories were written in the chronicles. I will introduce you to these key moments and turning points. We will also have the opportunity to admire fine examples of architecture, including unique cubism and brutalism. And, of course, you will not miss the birthplace of Prague’s most celebrated writer, Franz Kafka.
Duration approx. 3 hrs
N.B. On Saturdays (due to the Sabbath), Jewish sights are closed.
Entrance fees: Jewish Museum

6. Hradčany and Little Quarter

Hradčany and roofs of Malá Strana

The left bank of the Vltava River, which includes an originally tributary town and another royal town, conceals a lot of quiet and undiscovered corners. We will walk through the New World, visit the former center of the Italian minority, see the most beautiful Baroque church in Prague, and explore the largest Baroque palace. Do you know what a plague column is or why houses in Prague have two numbers? If you choose this tour, you will also see a statue of an East German Trabant car standing on legs. We can explore a large artificial cave, and you will see a former observatory of the Communist State Secret Security.
Duration approx. 3 hrs

7. Vyšehrad

Slavín
Vyšehrad was the second seat of Bohemian princes and the residence of the first King of Bohemia, Vratislav I. Are you tired of the crowds of tourists? This is the perfect place for you – a quiet, peaceful area. The Romanesque rotunda of St. Martin, the Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, and many other sights await you. From the top of the cliff above the Vltava River, there is a wonderful view of the Prague Castle and the Smíchov district, which is slowly becoming a commercial center of Prague. In the Vyšehrad Cemetery, some of the greatest Czech minds are buried – composers Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák, and writers Karel Čapek and Božena Němcová, to name just a few.
Duration approx. 3 hrs

8. Architecture

Cubist lamp

Prague is a textbook of architecture, and its pages are filled with fascinating examples. This is why Prague was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We are fortunate that the capital suffered only minimal damage during WWII. In this tour, you will explore the most prominent features of various architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Classical, Historicism – Eclecticism, Art Nouveau, Constructivism – Functionalism, and examples of post-war architecture such as Brutalism and Deconstructivism. However, Prague offers much more – including the Spanish Moorish style and Cubism. This tour will not only cover architecture but also include legends and place everything in its historical context.
Duration approx. 3 hrs

9. Franz Kafka

Commemorative plaque of Franz Kafka

The most celebrated writer of Bohemia, Franz Kafka (1883-1924), spent almost his entire life in Prague. Enigmatic Kafka is considered, alongside James Joyce and Marcel Proust, a founding figure of the modern novel. Thanks to his work, the word "kafkaesque" exists. We will visit places where he was born, raised, educated, and worked. As Kafka once said, 'Here was my secondary school, over there in that building was the university, and a little further to the left, my office. My whole life—' and he drew a few small circles with his finger, '—is confined to this small circle.' Did you know that he also lived in the building that is now the American Embassy, as well as in Prague Castle at different times?
Duration approx. 3 hrs

10. Prague Gardens

Garden on the Ramparts

During this tour, we will explore Italian, French, and English-style gardens. We will visit the first place in Europe where tulips were cultivated. We will discuss not only garden architecture, but I will also introduce you to exotic trees such as the dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides), the empress tree (Paulownia tomentosa), and the tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera).

Cemeteries also have their own histories. On this tour, we will visit three different cemeteries, including the Vyšehrad Cemetery, where some of the most famous Czech figures are buried, and a military cemetery from WWII. I will also show you the grave of Jan Palach, a student who set himself on fire in 1969 in protest against the Soviet occupation.

It is the third bridge to be built at this location, the original wooden and later Romanesque Judith Bridges were both destroyed by flooding. We will focus on the legends, the decoration of the Bridge Tower, and the statues. You will learn about the attributes of the saints, so during your travels in Catholic countries, you willl be able to recognize the saints depicted in monuments. You will also discover how easy it can be to determine the creation date of a statue. And of course, the life of each saint is portrayed through captivating legends. Vitus, Wenceslas, Adalbert, Sigismund, and John of Nepomuk.
